Combined Cycle Unit Steam Drum Replacement Third Party Quality Inspections
BEIS were engaged to provide third party in-process fabrication quality assurance inspection of a replacement steam drum to be installed at an Australian combined cycle power station. At the South Korean workshop, BEIS were able to verify the working quality documents against the physical works including:
- Tracking of material receival, certification, testing and manufacture
- Review and approval of forming and assembly fit-up records and subsequent dimensional verification against the in-process works
- Verification of welder qualification records and weld procedure specification critical variables against the in-process welding and shop process control sheets
- Review of non-destructive testing reports and worksheets completed to date, ensuring full traceability and compliance of all welding completed at the time of inspection; and
- Verification of the post weld heat treatment and hydrotesting facilities and equipment
BEIS were able to provide recommendations and improvements to the non-destructive testing plan to give the Client reassurance that the quality of their steam drum met the design and construction code requirements and it was fit for purpose for the remaining life of the plant.
