Conventional Fossil-Fired Boiler Operational Improvements
BEIS were engaged to complete operational investigations into several legacy boiler combustion, and steam and water control problems that had been significantly reducing plant reliability and steam process production within a large refinery. BEIS conducted an initial desktop operational gap assessment and field investigations to identify the key issues that were reducing boiler performance and reliability. As a result, a long-term partnership was developed between the Client and BEIS to deliver continuous operational improvements. Results to date include:
- Pulveriser primary and sealing air control improvements
- Boiler air flow element and instrumentation performance assessment and tuning
- Pulveriser grinding improvements
- Thorough maintenance outage inspections and fact-finding investigations
- NOx production and slagging reductions via total boiler air / fuel ratio and individual burner air / fuel ratio distribution tuning
- Burner and burner refractory design improvements
- Combustion draft fan performance and reliability improvements; and
- Steam and water flow element and instrumentation performance assessment and tuning, resulting in the replacement of feedwater and steam attemperation control valves and instrumentation improvements
Low NOx burner refractory profiling and flame detector sighting improvements
Low NOx burner air register positioning and secondary air pressure balancing tapping point modification
